Fellow Tally Scale Overview
Precision Scale
The Tally Pro comes in a glossy black glass base and contrasting matte black aluminum weighing tray. The three buttons and OLED display offer functionality beyond compare. Capable of detecting weight changes as small as 0.1 grams within it's limit, this scale is the embodiment of precision.
USB-C Rechargable
Powered by a lithium-ion battery, the Tally Pro comes with a USB-C charging port. Upon receiving it, I charged it once and haven't had to recharge it in over a month despite my daily use. Fellow, the manufacturer, suggests that an average user could get two months of use on a single charge.
Brew Assist
At the center of the scale's functionality are three accessible modes: weight, brew assist, and timer. These are smoothly toggled using a small button placed discretely behind the central dial. The scale's power is controlled via a long press of the dial, which also selects options in different modes. For instance, in the weight mode, rotating the dial allows swift transition between measurement units, providing a user-friendly interface even in early morning hours.
The timer mode on this scale provides a dual display: weight in grams and a timer. This split screen format ensures easy readability, with the weight to the right and the timer to the left. A button located on the left, easily identifiable with an analog stopwatch symbol, controls the timer's start and stop function.
The brew assist mode is one of the best features of the Tally Pro. This feature presents the coffee's weight in grams on the left, the brew ratio centrally, and additionally, it calculates the required volume of water, shown on the right.
Metal Plate & Glass Panel
The top surface is made of glass and integrates with the distinct OLED display. Furthermore, the weighing platter is made from metal, which makes for a premium feel and removes the requirement for supplementary heat protection, a common attribute of plastic scales.
The Downside
The Tally Pro scale does have a slight tendency to gather coffee grounds in a small gap around the weighing plate and also has a tendency to accumulate finger prints. A minor inconvenience when compared to the ease of cleaning the cheaper Timemore scale. However, it's a reason to dismiss it. The tray can be easily removed for thorough cleaning.
Conclusion
I've got a soft spot for the Fellow Tally Pro's brew assist mode. It's like a breeze to use, straight to the point, and I don't even need my phone! After playing around with it, it's earned its place on my countertop. From weighing food to brewing coffee, it's a great scale!
